What DEIB looks like at Stratford Hall

There is no single way to be a Stratford Hall student. Each student brings unique experiences, identities, strengths, and perspectives that enrich our school. Our goal is to create a learning community where all students can participate fully and develop the confidence to be themselves.

Our work is guided by a simple framework.

Diversity is what we have. The many identities, experiences, cultures, and backgrounds that make up our community.

Equity is what we give. The supports, resources, accommodations, and opportunities all members of our community need to access education and thrive.

Inclusion is what we do. The daily actions—big or small—that we each take to ensure every member of our community feels welcome, respected, and engaged.

Belonging is what we feel. The knowledge and feeling of being accepted, valued, and able to show up as our authentic selves.

Learning Through Understanding

Students encounter questions of identity, fairness, and human rights throughout the journey at Stratford Hall. Beginning in the Junior School and continuing through Senior School to graduation, students are encouraged to explore their own experiences and those of others through reading, discussion, inquiry, and reflection.

Whether it’s exploring Anti-racism, Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI), Truth and Reconciliation, or Neurodiversity, students learn to thoughtfully examine issues, consider multiple perspectives, and respectfully engage across difference.

This learning takes place every day, and on special occasions of recognition such as Orange Shirt Day, Black History Month, Pride Month, Women’s History Month, and International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Student Voice and Leadership

Belonging grows when students know their voices and actions matter. Across the school, students are encouraged to advocate for causes they care about and contribute to positive change. Whether students are driving climate action through the Sustainability Council, fostering well-being with the Action and Wellness Council, or building inclusive community spaces for queer students and their allies within the Gender and Sexuality Alliance, our students learn that they have the agency to shape our school and make a tangible difference in their community.
