We have been receiving guidance from the Ministry of Education concerning the school-level response to the threat posed by the 2019 novel coronavirus. The Ministry of Education is taking their lead from the Ministry of Health and the Provincial Health Officer and has encouraged all schools to reinforce healthy habits essential to fighting flu and colds. To this end, the BC Centre for Disease Control recommends the following practices, which are also their recommendations to reduce the risk of exposure to the coronavirus:
  • Frequent handwashing (it is the single most effective method of reducing infection spread)
  • Practicing other good hygiene habits (avoiding touching face/eyes/mouth with hands, and covering one's mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing, ideally with a disposable tissue or the crease of the elbow)
  • Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched (workplace) surfaces
Maintaining good general health (balanced diet, getting adequate sleep, exercising in moderation)
  • Staying at home when sick
As a precautionary measure, we have increased the frequency of cleaning of commonly touched surfaces in classrooms and common areas of all three buildings.

The health authorities are communicating that the risk in British Columbia is low at this time. The School will continue to follow the instructions provided by the health authorities and the Ministry of Education.
