The Beginnings

Stratford Hall was founded in the late 1990s by two Burnaby parents, Elaine Lee and Cindy Leung, who wanted a university preparatory option for their own children.

The school opened in 2000 with only 40 students, Kindergarten to Grade 12. Since then, we have added about 40 new students each year, making our current enrollment is 530 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

In 2003, Stratford gained authorization for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme: the first school in Western Canada to do so. That same year, Stratford Hall was accepted into the Independent Schools Association of BC, and later into the Canadian Association of Independent Schools in 2005.

In 2005, we achieved authorization for the IB Diploma Programme, ensuring that our first graduating class would be Diploma candidates. Four years later, Stratford attained full authorization for our Middle Years Programme. We are now one of eight schools in the Lower Mainland, and one of 20 in Canada, to offer the IB Continuum Programme.

Late 1990s

SCHOOL FOUNDED
The school is founded by two Burnaby mothers.
2000

STRATFORD HALL OPENS
Stratford Hall opens in the Italian Cultural Centre.
2003

PYP ACCREDITATION
The School is authorized to offer the Primary Years Programme.
2005

DP ACCREDITATION
The School is authorized to offer the Diploma Programme and acquires a new building on Commercial Drive.
2007

GRAD CLASS
Stratford Hall celebrates its first graduating class.
2009

MYP ACCREDITATION
Stratford Hall becomes a full IB Continuum school. PYP building is purchased and opened.
2014

MYP BUILDING
The MYP building is acquired and opened.
2018

3 BECOME 1
The School acquires a fourth building, spanning over two full city blocks.
2020

20TH YEAR
Stratford Hall turns 20.
