Re: International Trips and QMO Trip Cancellation
I am writing to inform you that we have decided to cancel all international trips in the current school year. This includes the cancellation of the upcoming Costa Rica Trip and Spring Reign Trips to Washington State. The Quebec-Montreal-Ottawa (QMO) Trip is also cancelled.
The decision to cancel international trips was made last night by the Board of Governors as international trips fall under the Board's purview. This morning I met with the Senior Leadership Team and Mr. McGuire, our International Trips Coordinator, and the decision was made to cancel the QMO Trip. Please note that domestic trips fall under the responsibility of the Head of School.
Both decisions to cancel trips were difficult and took into consideration factors such as the following: the speed and extent at which the COVID-19 virus is spreading, the increasing risk of border closures and travel restrictions being put into place, the ability of our teacher chaperones to manage a quarantine situation while on a trip, and the uncertainty over the availability of health care services at the international trip destinations. We are currently working with our travel providers and insurance company to initiate the process of accessing refunds for families. As soon as information is available, you will be contacted.
We realize this message will be very disappointing news to all involved. However, our primary consideration will always be to act in the best interest of our students and staff. Thank you for your patience, support and understanding.
